Summer is here (FINALLY!) and outdoor concerts are definitely an integral part of my family’s summer activity repertoire. Living in Chelsea, we’re only steps away from Madison Square Park, which is definitely one of the most kid-friendly places in Manhattan, and so we’ve gotten to know their Summer Concert Series quite well. For the uninitiated, Madison Square Park has a wonderful free summer concert series for children, and this summer, the concerts start on June 11 and run through August 8. The concerts are held every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30am on the main lawn in the park. Every concert showcases a different musical group and because the series is sponsored by the Madison Square Park Conservancy, they are very well-organized. There is designated stroller parking and a security team that only allows children, parents, and caregivers to enter the concert area. Remember to bring your blanket, as everyone sets up their spot on the grass. The concerts are great for kids of all ages. The older children dance and sing and, last year, shakers were handed out for some of the concerts. Please note that these concerts can get crowded, so definitely arrive on time.
