As part of Kids Fashion Week festivities, I had the chance to attend an Oscar de la Renta Childrenswear Trunkshow at the Rosie Pope Maternity store in TriBeCa.
And I am still swooning over the delicious exquisiteness of each piece in the Spring/Summer ’14 collection.
Sumptuous duchess satin dresses.
Meticulously hand-crafted pieces.
Vivid colors, exclusive prints and elegant silhouettes.
To quote Rachel Zoe: “I die.”
I know to some reading this, mine may seem like a bit of an extreme reaction.
“They’re just clothes….” I can almost hear my dad saying right now as I type this.
But they are more than just clothes, when it comes to anything from the House of de la Renta.
Working in the fashion industry for a number of years (side note: I even had the pleasure of working alongside one of Mr. de la Renta’s former publicists!) has given me a profound respect for the quality and attention to detail of fine clothing.
And when it comes to the Oscar de la Renta Childrenswear Collection, it’s the reflection of timeless design coupled with unparalleled old-world charm that makes me go gaga. Or wait — maybe it’s the use of some of the finest fabrics from European mills in the pieces, or that they are hand-sewn in Portugal by artisans, who have perfected their craft over generations.
I know, I know — “they’re just clothes” you are still saying. “You don’t need to spend $375 on a dress!”
Maybe not.
But every now and then, having a special, treasured piece in your child’s wardrobe is a very wonderful thing, in my humble opinion. Whether that be during the holidays, a wedding or a special occasion in the family. And if these below images don’t convince you, I’m not sure what will…
What are your favorite looks from the above collection?? Do you tend to splurge on one special clothing item for your children? Do share in the comments below.
