I was recently asked to participate in a virtual blog tour that would provide an inside look at mom a la mode, and also highlight a few of my other blogger buds. The timing is perfect, as I just completed a little nip/tuck of my site (thanks to one of the fellow bloggers featured below!) I’m happy to have this chance to provide a little “Behind the Music” about mom a la mode, as well as provide a snapshot of some other blogger pals of mine. Enjoy!
- What am I working on?
Honestly, I’m SO behind on my writing. There are quite a few stories in the hopper, namely, a recap of my family’s trip out West to Disneyland and Las Vegas, as well as some giveaways, seasonal fashion/beauty pieces and a few recipe/restaurant reviews. One thing I’m particularly excited about is my new affiliation with the folks at The Bouqs. Heard of them? They’re an eco-friendly online floral company out of Venice Beach, CA that produces the freshest most vibrant flowers at completely affordable prices. I first spotted them on Rachel Zoe’s Instagram account and was obsessed. So I’m really thrilled to now be partnering with them. As you know from previous posts, I absolutely LOVE fresh flowers so working with The Bouqs seemed like a natural fit for me and mom a la mode. Keep an eye out, too, for a greater emphasis on travel & food on the blog, with my special section “A la Mode On the Road” taking a broader role in the life of my blog.
- How does my work differ from others of its genre?
There are TONS of bloggers out there who cover the same topicalities as me. TONS. But what separate us are our own experiences, backgrounds and voices. All so different, rich and valuable, and serving a different purpose. I like to think that if you’re reading this right now, my writing resonates with you in some way. And that’s pretty darn cool. It’s paramount to me to maintain an authenticity here on mom a la mode and its corresponding social channels. So whatever you see on my blog is 100% vetted and approved by me.
- Why do I write/create what I do?
I’ve always considered myself a writer and spent my professional career writing fashion/food/business communications for companies large and small, and even did some ghost writing (for a celebrity!) I’m a storyteller, a sharer and a networker. I love EXPERIENCES. And I really love products and the “customer service experience,” in particular. The blog brings all of this all together in one – a place for me to be creative while at the same time, provide valuable tips and info or just something for my readers to chew on or chuckle along with.
- How does my writing/creating process work?
If I’m inspired by something – say a recipe, a fashion trend, something that my son said – I can whip up a post in just about an hour or less. Product reviews and contests take way longer. Posts with lots of moving parts, graphics, items that need to be fact-checked take days and sometimes weeks. I find that my best writing comes from those stream-of-consciousness posts that seem to just flow out of me like water from a garden hose. And then sometimes I have to let things sit and marinate a bit before releasing to the world. Above all, I <heart> the creative process.
But enough about me….
