Summer is in full swing and Sienna is 7 months old already <already!!!>
Several months ago, we had the opportunity to get Sienna acquainted with the water well ahead of bathing suit season through a Mini Class at my local Goldfish Swim School in Bergen County, NJ.
What better way to condition your 5 month old to the water prior to the start of pool season? It was perfect!
I was starting to think about little activities for Sienna to do — it’s been 6 1/2 years for me, so my brain’s a little foggy. But I recall having Rocco in the pool at a very early age (turned out he was 8 months old) Since Sienna showed good neck control at 5 months old, we broadened our horizons a bit for activities for her to do.
Because Lord knows, there’s only so much tummy time, bouncy seat time and stroller rides a baby and mommy can take in a given month.
So there we were at Goldfish Swim School, Wyckoff location back in May. Admittedly, getting back into the “swim” of the aquatics routine took a bit of stamina for me. The packing, schlepping and hauling of a ginormous diaper/swim bag; multiple changes of clothes; swim diapers; bottles, etc. But Goldfish made it easy once we got through the doors.
I had ample room for changing both Sienna and me in a large changing room and also had big community counter space for post-swim change outs for baby.
We took our class at 11am on a Wednesday which was a PERFECT time since school age children weren’t there for their lessons and it wasn’t as chaotic as things can be at Goldfish (when Rocco was 5 he had a 5pm swim lesson and it was a very busy time!)
Miss Suzy was our instructor, and over the course of 5 weeks, Sienna became water conditioned, enjoyed kicking (she LOVES to kick in the water still!), tummy time on a super sturdy mat, sang songs, practiced her otter float (is there anything sweeter to see?!) and enjoyed some one-on-one time with mommy in a new, multi-sensory stimulating environment.
The nice thing about Golfish Swim School is that there’s no one “right” month to enroll. They have classes ALL the time and even now in the summer — they even have Family Swim times, a swim team, annual memberships, birthday parties and more. And with locations all of the U.S., chances are there’s one nearby — visit them at www.goldfishswimschool.com to learn more.
Many thanks to Goldfish Swim School, Wyckoff for the complimentary month of lessons for me and Sienna. And happy summer to all!

Wow! That is fantastic to get Sienna acquainted with the water. That was very important to me that our kids did not have a fear of the water! She looks like a bathing beauty!

Thank you! And she STILL is loving the water (and of course, looking very fashionable in her swimwear thanks to her Godmother Jackie xo)
