It’s officially Awards Show Season and mom a la mode could not be happier.
While I thoroughly enjoyed last night’s walk down the red carpet, I was not WOW-ed by anyone in particular this year at the Globes. (But did think Amy Poehler and Tina Fey did an amazing job as hosts!)
Don’t get me wrong — the stars were shining. But I just felt that they played it a little safe this time around. And that very well may be due to the unseasonably cold weather in Southern California for this time of year. I don’t recall seeing as many long-sleeved dresses as I did last night at an awards show!
The color palette ranged from whisper-soft pinks and creamy neutrals to shocks of mango and red. But I really loved how much black and navy we saw, especially done simply in an elegant column or shift. I haven’t seen the dress of Homeland actress Morena Baccarin appear on too many best dressed lists but I’m including her here because I absolutely love the combo of Navy and Black, and think it especially looks fresh in couture or eveningwear. One caveat: I would have LOVED, LOVED this dress even more if those filmy sleeves were removed. Again, blame it on the chilly LA weather — it looks to me as if she added the sleeves at the last minute to keep “warm”. But who am I to tell Valentino how to design, right?
Here are my picks for Best Dressed at the Golden Globes 2013…and I ask you: if you were to walk the runway, what would your gown (or tux for my male readers) look like? Who would design it? What kind of accessories would you wear? And how about your hair/makeup??? Let’s discuss in the comments below…and I’ll even start!

If mom a la mode were to appear on the Red Carpet, she’d be wearing something from either Valentino, Oscar or Marchesa, with jewels from the vaults of Bulgari or Cartier. Hair would be teased, off-set pinned curls. Nails likely vampy but would depend upon dress color (either Red, Navy/Black, Fuchsia or Black). Shoes by Louboutin.
