For Mother’s Day, I wanted to share a photo of my mama and me that has a special meaning.
This photo was taken back in 2005 in front of the Waldorf-Astoria in NYC, right after New York Women in Communications Matrix Awards Luncheon. I was awarded a scholarship for grad school by New York Women in Communications — an organization that I was a part of since my college days– and my parents and then-fiancee (now known as The Hubs) came to support me.
That day, my mom and I got to meet Oprah Winfrey, Martha Stewart and a series of other prominent women in media.
But the superstar in that room as far as I was concerned, was really my mom.
My mom — my biggest cheerleader — whose support and encouragement has allowed me to thrive in life situations and circumstances that seemed insurmountable. My mom who taught me to embrace independence and let nothing hold me back from achieving my dreams. My mom who showed me that there’s no such thing as too many pairs of shoes…or too many accessories.
Happy Mother’s Day to my mom — and to all the other moms out there who live their lives by example, give their children the best that they can and encourage their children to be all that they can be.
