The mom a la mode household is Spring-ing into action by tackling a few much-needed home renovation projects. Just about a month ago, we had our dining room repainted, complete with a few decorative additions like wainscoting (post on this to come!) And as I type this, we are receiving estimates on window replacement throughout the house.
I could tell that our toddler was feeling a little left out of the house project fun, so the hubs and I decided to loop him – and his bedroom – into our Spring redecorating extravaganza — mostly thanks to the folks at Disney Paint.
It’s been almost three years that we are in our house (we moved in just 3 weeks before our son was born!) and Roc’s room looks exactly the same as it did the day we brought him home from the hospital. We figured it’s a fitting time to start the transformation from “Baby Room” to “Child Room,” and what better way to help that transformation along than with a fresh coat of paint?
We took Roc to an area Walmart to check out their exclusive Glidden Disney Paint collection firsthand.
My son was giddy with delight at the sight of those iconic mouse ears gracing the shelves of the colorful paint display wall. There were tons of options to select from – 112 exclusive colors and five innovative specialty finishes to be exact – and I’m told that this line was formulated to withstand wear and tear, as well as repeated scrubs and washes. The best part for me is that it is premium-quality paint yet low odor and is free of harmful VOCs.
We were intrigued by the assortment of specialty finishes, and determined that that would be the way to go for our little project.
But which one to choose?!
Roc is really into playing with chalk, so initially we were leaning toward the Great Slate finish. But since we are set on painting his bedroom for this project, we’ve decided to save the chalkboard paint finish for an area of our home that is designed for active play, like our basement playroom.
The Magnificent Metallic specialty finish also caught my eye, and I can assure you if I were to be ever painting a little girl’s bedroom, I’d be using the All That Glitters finish to spread some “pixie dust” throughout the walls of her room!
We ultimately decided that the Ready, Set, Glow! finish was just too cool to pass up, especially since a large part of my son’s bedtime routine involves gazing up at the stars on his bedroom ceiling that beam out from a projector. But the projector requires batteries that often run out pretty quickly, soooo…..
…We’ve decided that we’re going to paint stars and little galaxies on Roc’s walls and ceiling around his crib (soon to be toddler bed)!!
Thankfully, we can paint the translucent yellow finish right over Roc’s existing painted walls, which are currently shades of blue, with white chair rail and a white ceiling.
And because we are all in this together, you can count on a few follow up posts that show our Disney Paint project-in-progress, as well as a special unveiling in the form of a “Magic Room PJ Party” that will be complete with glow-in-the-dark, Buzz Lightyear kiddie activities and even a special door prize!
So if your child’s room, mudroom or play area needs a little lovin’, you might consider trekking over to your local Walmart to check out the Disney Paint collection by Glidden. The price is right ($13.47 per quart -$27.97 per gallon) and who knows, maybe your child will actually want to get in on the action!
One last thing — some of the Disney Paint colors are designed to complement not only each other but also Walmart’s Disney bedding and Disney room accessories, such as furniture, toys and décor options, (sold in store or online.) So redecorating can be a lot easier (and more affordable) than you might think.
Ready, set, here we glow…..

That little prince is the luckiest boy ever – and deservedly so! I’m looking forward to when Rocco shows me his new room. I know we’ll have a blast playing up there, too!
Love & kisses to all!
