It’s official – we are seeing stars! After much planning, prepping and a wonderful little party to celebrate our hard work, my son’s room has a new addition out of this galaxy – his very own constellation of Glow in the Dark stars, thanks to Disney Paint!
In my previous posts related to this Disney Paint project, I talked about how it was important for the Hubs and me to start transitioning our toddler’s room from a nursery to more of a big-boy room. And being part of the Disney Paint Moms program really allowed us to kick this into high gear, inspiring us to give a glow to his otherwise plain blue walls.
Just a few days after the Ready, Set, Glow! paint finish dried, I removed my blue painters tape and started to get into “party mode.” We hosted a little “My Magic Room PJ Party” for our son’s pre-school aged neighborhood friends on a Friday night. The kiddies were adorable! They all showed up in their PJs and were excited to see what kind of activities we had planned for them.
I themed the party around the glow in the dark stars, and purchased all of my party materials from Walmart. You’ve gotta love that you can buy a crudité, block of cheese AND Disney Paint and craft supplies all in one store (and at such amazingly low prices!)
I’m a bit of a party planner and this room reveal was no exception to having a run-of-show. Here was mine:
6:45pm Kids arrive – cheese, crudité, apple slices, snacks and drinks are served
7pm: Craft 1: Construction Paper Galaxies
7:15pm: Craft 2: Out-of-this-world Glow-in-the-Dark T-shirts
7:30pm: Mini cupcakes, watermelon, milk and juice served
7:45pm: Up to Roc’s room for the Big Reveal!
The kids were ADORABLE and were super creative with their galaxies and glow-in-the-dark t-shirt designs. If you read this blog, you’ll know that I’m not the craftiest of the bunch, but got inspired when I found these cool star-shaped Post-It® Notes by 3M. Easy enough for tiny hands to peel and stick onto light blue construction paper, and they looked super cool. I then had crayons galore for the kids to use to customize and create their constellations.
For the t-shirt project, each child got a white boys undershirt and I provided them with fabric markers and glow-in-the-dark craft paint. Working with their mommies, the children created pretty awesome shirts that actually do glow-in-the-dark! (tip: to keep an even work surface and to prevent paint/marker bleed-thru, I gave each child a piece of cardboard to slide under the shirt when working)
After some tasty treats (the mini cupcakes were a hit!), and a door prize drawing (lucky Maureen won a $50 Walmart gift card!) it was off to Roc’s room for the big reveal.
I sent my husband up about 15 minutes ahead of time to make sure Roc’s light was on in his room to charge up the glow-in-the-dark paint finish. And then, we shut the lights and everyone said “Wow!”
The kiddies thought the stars looked cool while the parents asked about the application process, and how it was working with the paint, etc. I was all too happy to share with them how easy it was to apply, how safe it was for a child’s room (low-odor, non VOCs) and how reasonable was the cost.
My son still marvels at his constellation, nightly, before dozing off to dreamland. I’m excited that we still have a bunch of paint left and hope to add more to his galaxy (and maybe even a few handprints on other parts of his room!)
At some point, we hope to try out some of the other specialty finishes within the Disney Paint collection. I’m already eyeing our basement playroom, and thinking the Great Slate Chalkboard paint would be PERFECT!

THANK YOU!! Yes, he is loving it. I only wish you could see the full effect…had a hard time capturing it in the darkness but will try to share a really good shot on my Facebook page. xoxo

What a fun way to do the reveal!!! Will have to think about that for the next stage in our girls’ room. Will need major help with that one. How does Roc like his room so far?

He really loves it. The stars let off just the right amount of glow and then start to fade out when they need to (right when he’s about to fall asleep!)
