{Guest Post} Blahg, Blahg, Blahg: The Hubs Weighs In…

March 28, 2013 by Lisa Pisano Leave a Comment

Meet Mike, aka "The Hubs"

Meet Mike, aka “The Hubs”

Meet my husband, Mike (aka: The Hubs.)  He’s been a great source of support and inspiration for a lot of my work on mom a la mode. When he expressed an interest in getting in on the “guest post” action, I thought it would be fun for you to get Dad A La Mode’s perspective on all things blog-related.  He’s a hoot – enjoy!

It seems like everywhere I turn these days someone’s launching his or her own blog.

“Hey, check out my blog on fruit.”

“Oh, here’s the link to my blog about bocce ball.”

“I’m reading this blog about all things canary yellow.  It’s all about things canary yellow – you should check it out.”

So when my wifey, mom a la mode, told me a little over a year ago she was launching a blog, I quickly replied, “blahg, blahg, blahg,” then apologetically asked, “What’s with the blogging?”

Mom a la mode replied, “I really miss writing.  I mean I love being home with our son and wouldn’t trade it for the world, but I still want to write.”

So off my wife went and a few months later, mom a la mode came to fruition.  And here I was the next day, promoting it like I was Don King… “Hey, check out my wife’s blog on fruit.”

Ok, so she hasn’t written much on fruit, but there are frequent mentions of an awesome product made from grapes. LOL

As a show of love and support, I immediately subscribed to the blog and started following her (hey, while we’re on the topic, have you?)  It wasn’t long before I was hooked.  There was a captivating interview with Tim Gunn, a killer review of jeans from The Limited I just had to have (ok, maybe not) and delicious recipes reminding me of why I married her.

I quickly realized this wasn’t something to pooh-pooh.  Mom a la mode was legit, and that meant big responsibilities for me, the hubs (which I now officially go by).

So what are the hub’s responsibilities you ask? Well, here are just a few:

First, be on the lookout for paparazzi everywhere you go – once your blogger has twelve Likes on Facebook, the paparazzi will be chasing her.  Who knew paparazzi chased Kia’s?

Second, sign up for Pinterest – once your blogger, blogs, you’ll need to pin the posts to your Pinterest.  Say that five times fast.

After that, sign up for Twitter – once your blogger, blogs, you’ll need to re-tweet the thoughts your tweeter tweets.  Say that five times fast.

Finally, lend unconditional support to your blogger – this is your single biggest job as “the hubs.”  Let’s put it this way… no support, no delicious recipes.  No delicious recipes equals a “hungry hubs.”  No one likes a hungry hubs.

Now, before I wrap this guest post, I want to thank mom a la mode for opening my eyes to the blogosphere…there are countless blogs out there; mommy blogs , daddy blogs, kiddy blogs, foodie blogs, funny blogs, unfunny blogs, clog blogs, sports blogs, Vegas blogs, burger blogs and even Bieber blogs.  One of my personal favorites is Mixer Upper authored by a dear friend.  So no matter what you’re into, there’s a blog out there for you.

The next time someone tells you they’re launching a blog, before you shrug your shoulders, sigh, and say, “blahg, blahg, blahg” — give it a try, you never know, you just might come across a great blog about bocce ball.

{The Hubs was not compensated in any way for this post.  But he did have a delicious dinner cooked for him.}

Well, well, well. Who knew that my “favorite’ son-in-law could be such an articulate writer. Bravo, Hubs, for letting it be known, in your own unique and funny way, what I have had the pleasure of knowing for all these years. Keep up the good work, “mom a la mode” for the best is yet to come! XOXO

This was an extremely fun read. Mike, you’ve made some very keen observations. I always knew my “practice baby” was a genius!
I’m looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!
Love & kisses! (especially to my little guy!)
