A New Year, A Fresh Start

January 24, 2015 by Lisa Pisano Leave a Comment

The month of January is more than half over, and this is my first blog post of 2015.

Yes, it’s been THAT kind of start to the New Year for mom a la mode.

In many ways, it’s been a wonderful start to the New Year in it being just that: a NEW year.

I was VERY eager to leave 2014 behind for a myriad of reasons. It was just an awful, awful year that I’d very much hope to never see the likes of ever, ever again.

My family and I ushered in the New Year amongst friends and family and I found myself settling into 2015 at a nice, easy pace.

I was ahead of work deadlines. I had lists made. I had attainable short-term goals in order.

The first full week of January was productive and promising: 2 potential new business opportunities and Groupe a la Mode, LLC forging ahead with new team members, new clients and a new logo in the works.

And then everything came to a screeching halt, with some sort of bronchial flu virus invading my husband, my son…and last but certainly not last – me.

Oh.My.Word. I was SO sick. And still kinda am!

I haven’t been THAT sick since I was 24 years old. Fever. Chills. Hacking, hacking cough. Chest congestion so bad that I was thisclose to heading to the ER because I couldn’t breathe.

Official diagnosis: Bronchitis

Unofficial diagnosis: It-Sucks-itis

And with the sickness, comes the sadness. I’m finding that I’m missing my mom the most when I’m at my worst. Who doesn’t want their mom when they’re sick? Whether you’re 4 or 44 – you just want your mama, right? So with the hacking cough comes along the twinges of sadness and the reminders of loss.

But we’re slowly pulling it together, here.

Dialing it down where I can to get myself fully well and functioning on all cylinders. Keeping the house, the family and the business afloat. Attempting to take “me” time whenever and wherever I can.

As for le blog, it’s a New Year and I have some fun and interesting content pieces that I’m excited to share with you. Just hang tight while I start to pull them together.

And for those of you in the Bergen County, New Jersey area – I’ll be set up at (201) Magazine’s Women for Women event taking place on Wednesday, January 28th at the Glenpointe Marriot in Teaneck.  Stop by to talk “inspiration” and the “balancing act” with me. You can purchase tickets in advance, or at the door.

Here’s to hoping you are all well and healthy, and that your 2015 is off to a wonderful start!
