Smashburger: It’s a SMASH! {Giveaway Closed}

May 28, 2013 by Lisa Pisano 7 Comments

Hungry for more burger info?  As we watch the last few days of National Burger Month fade into June, what better way to say hello to summer than with a smashing burger giveaway?!

Smashburger with DaddyI finally got myself – and my family – to Smashburger last week, after several years of eyeing the various locations around Northern New Jersey.  And I have to say, the more I visit these types of fast-casual burger establishments, the more pleased I’ve been with the quality, ingredients and service that they offer.

The one thing that stood out to me the most about Smashburger was the service. Since I have a food allergy (sesame products), I tend to proceed with caution with anything bread-related, and I actually called ahead to the Ramsey, NJ Smashburger location to inquire about the bun ingredients as well as the burger and fry components. The manager could not have been nicer. He was patient and totally accommodating.  This stellar service continued when the hubs, my toddler son and I visited the restaurant just a few hours later.

The cashier was warm, welcoming, asking “Is this your first time to a Smashburger?” and despite a bustling Friday night scene, was thorough with our order-taking process.  Our burgers were made to order and delivered to our table, with several employees stopping by our table throughout our visit to see how we were enjoying our meal and if we needed anything.

Let me tell you about the food.  There are these little touches of fancy fluttered throughout the menu – like the use of truffles, herbs and premium brands like Haagen-Dazs. I decided to go for the Smashfries and was really impressed by them: for $2.19 you get a little touch of gourmet with what to me tasted like herbs de Provence but was actually rosemary, garlic and oil tossed around the spuds. I opted for the basic burger route, ordering the All American: American cheese, ketchup, pickles on an egg bun (my fave!) and I added avocado. YUM. My husband pretty much ordered the same (minus the avocado) and my son wanted chicken strips, which came with fries and a drink as part of his kids meal.

The hubs ordered the same as me minus the cheese and the Avocado. He opted for regular fries.

Even the Chicken Strips were yummy...just ask Roc!

So what’s behind the “smash” in the Smashburger? You can read up more on their website, but basically their corner of the burger market involves smashing, searing and seasoning to order, using fresh 100% Certified Angus Beef®. And frankly, what sets them apart in my opinion is the customer service.  From the messages throughout the store and on their take-out menus to the customer interactions within the restaurant, it’s apparent that Smashburger really wants you to be happy with them and they really want you coming back.

And I’m a sucker for outstanding customer service.

Where does Smashburger stack up?  On the burger scale, I’d rank Smashburger a notch higher than Steak ‘n Shake but not quite as high as Shake Shack. However on the service scale, they get three gold stars. And I’ll definitely be back – there are a few other burger concoctions I’d like to try…and those Smashfries are available in a Sweet Potato version, too, which sound pretty darn amazing.

And so we leave National Burger Month with a Smash-ing giveaway: A Smashburger Prize Pack that includes a $10 gift card to any Smashburger in the U.S., a reusable Smashburger tote and a red Smashburger travel mug. Giveaway will run for 1 week so enter today: a Rafflecopter giveaway

    YUM!! I love Smash Burger. Not only is the food delicious and great quality, but their attention to my dairy allergy really sets them apart! Can’t wait until they open up in Chicago… they are slated to open this summer!
